PEI:

Prince Edward Island has a high minimum wage. Compared to the average Islander’s income, it is the highest in Canada.

Basic economics suggest that when someone’s skills are worth less to employers than the minimum wage, he or she will be unemployed. Further increases to the minimum wage would threaten many people, whose labour would become more expensive for businesses.

Higher minimum wages are popular, but they clearly hurt the people one intends to help. Low-skilled and young workers need employment opportunities, not laws to price them out of work.

Instead of raising the minimum wage, government should create the conditions for a more vibrant, employment-friendly economy.
