Within hours of AIMS publishing its Annual Report Card on Atlantic Canadian High Schools, our website receives a quarter of a million hits. Such a response is proof parents, students and teachers are very interested in what’s happening in our schools.
AIMS’ research, supported by international studies, shows that public reporting, accountability and choice are key factors in improving student performance.
This Commentary, written by Australian commentator Janet Albrecht, was published just after the Australian government posted an online report of school performance. She points out that while the education establishment and teachers’ union fight the public release of information, parents and students recognize such information is vital to education reform and improvement.
