In February of 2005, AIMS published a paper by UNB economist David Murrell entitled
Could Do Better: Grading Atlantic Canada’s 2004/05 Provincial Finances.
The grades were not good.
The paper concluded that in the 2004/05 fiscal year governments in the region didn’t do a very good job of balancing voter demands, while promoting an economic environment to attract skilled labour and business capital.
As of April 26th, 2005, all four Atlantic provinces have presented their budgets for the coming fiscal year, and AIMS was there for each delivery.
The links below provide a review of what the provinces did right, and what they continue to do wrong in the quest for a remedy to fiscal ill-health.
