Atlantic Canada needs more people. With birth rates in decline and young people leaving, the region will continue to experience a shortage of workers.
Fortunately, immigrants can help offset this problem. But for our investment in immigration to succeed, more must be done to encourage newcomers to stay in our region.
Because immigrants share an entrepreneurial spirit, many would agree that fixing the economy is the highest priority. Lowering taxes, eliminating unnecessary regulation on businesses, and reducing the overall cost of government are necessary conditions to keep new Canadians here.
With these policy changes, immigration can continue to be an important part of Atlantic Canada’s future. What’s more, these fiscal reforms will create the conditions for greater economic growth, which means fewer Atlantic Canadians will need to leave home to find work.
