HALIFAX, NS – The Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS) announces the appointment of three senior fellows. Dr. Ian Brodie, Dr. Rodney Clifton and Robert Roach will be affiliated with the Institute’s research team.
“Ian, Rod, and Robert bring considerable experience to bear on public policy questions, including energy and education,” said AIMS President & CEO Marco Navarro-Génie. Their affiliation with the Institute allows us to expand our research capacity and provide better commentary on contentious policy questions in Atlantic Canada.”
The three new senior fellows will provide a depth of experience and expertise for the think tank’s work.
Dr. Brodie is a professor in the University of Calgary’s Department of Sociology. He was chief of staff to the prime minister of Canada from 2006 to 2008 and is an expert in Canadian legal and political institutions. Apart from his role as a senior fellow, he serves on AIMS’s research advisory board.
Dr. Rodney Clifton is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba and Research Director for the Frontier Centre for Public Policy, a research organization serving Western Canada. A former resident of Newfoundland and Labrador, he now resides in Winnipeg. He will assist with AIMS’s research and publications on education issues.
Robert Roach is an expert on energy policy, serving as a senior policy analyst for ATB Financial, an Alberta bank. He is co-author of AIMS’s 2015 study A Good Problem to Have, which advocated that Newfoundland and Labrador’s government save 100 percent of volatile oil-based revenues. He provides regular commentary for AIMS on energy issues.
AIMS is Atlantic Canada’s only independent, non-partisan public policy think tank, providing a distinctive market-oriented perspective on economic, political and social issues. Unique among research organizations in the region, it does not accept government subsidies. The Institute’s research focus encompasses education, healthcare, education, trade and public finance.
