Brian Flemming, CM, QC, DCL is a Halifax columnist and consultant. Following his legal education in Canada, the U.K. and the Netherlands, Mr. Flemming practiced law for many years with Stewart McKelvey and its predecessor firms. For more than a decade, he lectured in public international law at Dalhousie Law School and in commercial law at St. Mary’s University. In the early 70s, he was a member of and, subsequently, vice chairman of The Canada Council.
In the late 70s, Mr. Flemming was a senior policy advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada in Ottawa. In the mid-8 Os, Mr. Flemming left law practice to pursue private business interests. More than six years ago, Mr. Flemming became a regular columnist for The Daily News of Halifax. In recent years, his columns have been carried by many other Canadian newspapers. For a number of years, he was a political panellist on Sunday Edition, a nationally-televised news program.
