Halifax – The Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS) has a new Vice President. AIMS President & CEO Charles Cirtwill today named Barbara Pike to the position.
Pike has been with AIMS for five years as the Director of Communications. Cirtwill says in her new role as Vice President she will retain her responsibilities in the area of communications but will take on an expanded role in coordinating development on behalf of AIMS. In addition, Barbara will become another of AIMS’ public voices.
“Barbara’s experience, knowledge and enthusiasm make her a natural for this new role,” says Cirtwill.
“For anyone who understands the importance of ideas, of public policy, of pushing the envelope; this is an ideal job,” says Pike. “The issues our Institute tackles make a difference in our day to day lives, whether it is questioning the status quo in public education, or thinking outside the box on public finances, or putting the tough questions to municipal government. We stir the pot.”
Barbara brings more than 30 years of experience to AIMS, through a 20+ year career in journalism and more than a decade as a communications and public affairs specialist. She is also an active volunteer in the community and has been a member of a variety of boards and committees.
Currently, Barbara is a member of the Board of Governors of Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) in Halifax and sits on its Development and its Human Resources and Governance Committees. She is Vice Commodore of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and sits on its Board of Management, and is a past President of NSYA, the governing body for the sport of sailing in Nova Scotia. Barbara co-chaired the 2009 Nautel Laser World Championships, one of the largest sailing competitions in Canadian history, which was named the 2009 Regatta of the Year.
